Inspector-General of Police, Mike Okiro |
The Federation of Ahlus- Sunnah Organisation of Nigeria, an amalgamation of 30 Islamic groups in the country, has warned the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro, against massive clampdown on Muslims in his current war against the Al-Qaeda terrorist group. The warning was contained in the speech read by the Vice-President of FASON, Sheikh Mas’ud Adepoju, on behalf of the President, Alhaji Miftau Mustapha, at a news conference in Ibadan on Tuesday. Adepoju, who addressed journalists in company with the Vice-President, Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria, Sheikh Abdur Rasheed Hadiyyatullah, and other notable Islamic scholars, described the alleged statement credited to Okiro on Al-Qaeda, as a false alarm. He explained that Muslims in the country would have ignored Okiro’s statement especially when he had denied it, but expressed deep concern over an allegation that the IG had set up anti Al-Qaeda groups in police units across the country.
