The Federal Government has condemned telecommunication companies and filling stations for encroaching on federal highways.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Federal Controller of Works, Osogbo Office, Mrs. F.M. Adekunle, said some tele-communication firms, filling stations and other businesses, violated the right of way of federal highways.

She said, “The right of way means the limit of Federal Government’s ownership of land on the alignment of all federal highways. This means that there should be 50-metre setback in towns and 15-metre setback in built-up areas.”

Adekunle called on the state to regularise their papers soonest.

She said that adherence to lawful setbacks on federal highways would check future demolition and ensure that compliance with road safety regulation.

Adekunle enjoined motorists to drive carefully during the yuletide.

She, however, suggested that the loss of lives as a result of road accidents should be curbed in the country.
