Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has urged members of the National Youths Service Corps and youths in the state to strive to create jobs, rather than seeking for white collar jobs.
He made this appeal at the passing out parade of 2008 Batch A corps members in Akure.
Mimiko, who was represented by the Head of Service, Mr. Alaba Isijola, said it was high time youths started to develop their entrepreneurial skills in order to be job creators, rather than seeking paid employment, which is scarce.
He said that his administration would provide support for youths who were ready to be self reliant.
He commiserated with the families of a corps member who lost her life during the service. He prayed God to grant the family of Josephine Okhieme the fortitude to bear the loss of their daughter, who died in an auto accident while travelling home in 2008 for Christmas.
The state coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Ladipo Laniyan, urged the corps members to change their attitude towards white collar jobs. He said that nobody could be truly rich while working for others.
He added that the nation needed youths who would take up the responsibilities of creating wealth. He urged them to take advantage of government agencies such as the National Directorate of Employment.
While 2,083 corps members passed out, 13 of them received awards and commendations, while 24 who have disciplinary cases, would face sanctions by the NYSC.
