A NINE-YEAR-OLD pupil of Fountain Education Centre, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, John Owajimimin, has won this year‘s quiz competition organised by Literamed Publishing Ltd., publishers of Lantern Books.

Apart from being rewarded with a cash prize of N30,000, Owajimimin, who came first in the Eastern Zone and second nationwide, also won a set of books on different subjects for his school.

Presenting the cash prize to Owajimimin at the school premises on Tuesday, the Sales Representatives of Literamed, Mr. Chibuike Okeke, said the competition was organised nationwide to encourage young minds to develop the habit of reading.

He said, “We are just trying to uplift the standard of education in the country. That is what we intend to achieve from the programme and I believe we are making progress.

“We want to tell the people that reading books is the most important thing that could happen in one‘s life. We in Literamed want to encourage the people to start reading.”

Okeke pointed out that Owajimimin was one of the numerous pupils who filled the questionnaires at the back of his Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning textbook, but emerged the winner of the competition.

He urged government at all levels to reward diligent pupils and students, arguing that such step would encourage others to study hard.
