President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday held a breakfast prayer meeting for the nation in the Presidential Villa, during which he called on religious leaders to continue to pray for the peace and progress of the country.
The prayer and breakfast meeting was organised by the Aso Villa Chapel.
Jonathan acknowledged that the ”collective prayers offered by several men and women of God” in the country were what had been keeping Nigeria.
He, however, added that “more prayers are needed to make the country perform better.”
Noting that the only “way out of the challenges facing the country was through our trust in God,” Jonathan enjoined religious organisations to pray for the nation and her leaders.
Jonathan who pledged that he would continue to trust in God to direct him as he leads the country added, “No matter the wisdom, skills and ability I have, I cannot succeed except with God.”
In a sermon entitled, ‘The Awesome Responsibility of Choosing our Future‘, the General Overseer of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi, said everyone had been given the opportunity to choose his future.
Kumuyi said, “Nigeria has come to a critical moment in its history,” and as a result, called on Nigerians “to be involved in bringing about the change that will guarantee a glorious future of the country.”
The session was attended by Christian leaders including the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor; the Prelate of the Methodist Church, Nigeria, Dr. Ola Makinde; the Catholic Archbishop of the Abuja Archdiocese, John Onaiyekan; the Chaplain of the Aso Villa Chapel, Obioma Onwuzurumba, and his predecessors, Yusuf Obaje and William Okoye, among others.
